A Little About Myself
Well it's been a week and I'm so happy that the store is up and running with presales moving along. I'd like to take the time to share a little about myself, why I started the clothing company, and where I see things going in the future.
So Who Am I?
Comedian and Drag Queen Jackie Beat once said, "If you can't tell people who you are in one sentence then you're doing it wrong." Granted I'm paraphrasing and can't remember what podcast she said it on but the message stuck. I'd like to think that I can do this and my sentence would be the following:
"If Rickles and Rivers adopted a kid from the South Pacific and he became a comedian with a love for Disney that would be me."
For clarification, I'm not in any way related to those comedians but I'd like to think that I've got a healthy schmear of both in my comedy with a healthy sprinkling of neuroses. Not to mention my love for nice things like Joan had. Also Joan said it best about exercise when she said. "I don't exercise. If God wanted me to bend over he would have put diamonds on the floor."
So I'd like to think that I'm a comedian but since that's not paying the bills I'm doing what all self respecting entertainers do. Work retail.
Also since I'm single and have to keep up with the gays in Los Angeles I took up running several years ago and that is the only form of 'exercise' I can do regularly without many complaints. (More on my love/hate relationship with running in a future post).
So why Diamond in the Rough?
First it's a nod to one of my favorite movies as a child (Aladdin). But it's also a reminder that whenever we deal with life's tough situations and outside sources negatively affecting us we come out stronger and better. Much like how a diamond is formed after intense pressure and comes out beautiful in the end.
Now that the site is up what else do you have planned?
That's a great question internet! I've got a few more shirt designs coming down the line that I'm excited to share and eventually we will expand this to have more apparel like socks, jackets, and athletic wear. But for now, we're going to rock the shirts hard.
Finally, don't forget. You're a diamond.
